Yang Shubing, Deputy Director of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, recently led a delegation to visit the Confucius Institute in Joburg, including Xie Yonghua, Secretary of the Party Committee and President of Nanjing University of Technology, Xu Chaoshan, Dean of Changzhou Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Gong Fanghong, Secretary of the Party Committee of Wuxi Vocational and Technical College, and Shi Yunyu, Director of the Foreign Cooperation and Exchange Office of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education.
Rector of the University of Johannesburg, Lekotwa AProfessor Mpedi warmly welcomed the delegation, which coincided with a rainy day, and said that in the local culture of South Africa, rainy days represent luck and blessings, and indicated better and deeper cooperation between the two sides in the future.
Deputy Director Yang Shubing first introduced the basic situation of Jiangsu Province in the fields of culture, economy and education, and fully affirmed the operation of the Confucius Institute in Joburg. Deputy Director Yang Shubing expressed the hope that the two sides can further build the Confucius Institute in Joburg with higher quality and larger scale, promote more student exchanges between the University of Joburg and universities in Jiangsu Province, welcome Joburg university students to participate in the “Splendid Jiangsu” summer camp held in Jiangsu Province every year, and warmly welcome the 2025 “High-Speed Rail China Tour” for South African university students led by the University of Joburg. Lekotva Principal Mpedi expressed his high agreement with Deputy Director Yang Shubing’s proposals, saying that these suggestions were like beautiful music in his ears, and all the proposals made him highly appreciated and supported.
At the meeting, the two sides envisioned cooperation, and Deputy Director Yang Shubing proposed that Nanjing University of Technology and the University of Joburg jointly lead the establishment of the “Jiangsu-South Africa University Presidents Alliance” to provide a platform for the exchange of management experience between the two universities.
After the meeting, the delegates watched a rich cultural program of martial arts, Chinese dance and Chinese song singing performed by the students of the Confucius Institute in Joburg.
