The Northern Cape Provincial Government delegation has recently concluded a successful visit to the South African Radio Astronomy Observatory (SARAO) and the CSIR’s Centre for High Performance Computing (CHPC).
The visit provided valuable insights into the advanced computing systems that support the MeerKAT telescope and the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) project, positioning the Northern Cape at the forefront of science, technology, and innovation.
The engagements laid the foundation for future collaboration in artificial intelligence (AI), green data centre development, research, and skills development, including opportunities through Sol Plaatje University. The delegation also welcomed plans to expand the MeerKAT project with a R1.1 billion investment and upcoming provincial infrastructure projects that will create opportunities for local MSMEs.
