The MEC for Roads and Public Works, Ms. Fufe Makatong, will undertake an oversight visit to the Namakwa District this morning  to assess the implementation of the Operation Vala Zonke Pothole Patching Program and inspect roads that sustained damage during recent flooding.

The oversight visit forms part of the Department’s commitment to ensuring that road maintenance and rehabilitation programs are implemented efficiently to improve road safety, accessibility and connectivity across the Province.

As part of the visit, the MEC will inspect the ongoing pothole patching works on Steyn Street in Calvinia, where the Department is working in collaboration with the Hantam Local Municipality under the Root Out the Dust (ROD) Program. This collaborative initiative seeks to improve the condition of municipal roads while strengthening cooperation between provincial and local government in delivering quality infrastructure services.

The MEC will also visit Bonekraal Road (DR2275) near Middelpos to assess the extent of flood damage and receive progress reports on interventions aimed at restoring the road network and ensuring continued access for surrounding communities.
