MEC Mase Manopole has challenged traditional leaders in John Taolo Gaetsewe District to continue to play a pivotal role in encouraging various communities, especially young people, to preserve our languages and culture.

MEC was speaking during the handing over ceremony of 30 Bonsmara cattle to five principal traditional leaders in Kuruman. The noble gesture was part of the Provincial Government’s promise made to them by Premier Dr Zamani Saul earlier.

 

In May 2024, Dr Saul made a commitment on behalf of the provincial government that all Senior Traditional Leaders who have been elevated to Principal Traditional Leadership status will receive donations from government in a form of 6 cattle each in an effort to ensure that our Traditional Leaders become self-sustainable given then mammoth task they undertake in our communities.

 

During phase 1 and 2 of Elevation of Traditional Leaders in May 2024, the Premier handed cattle to two Principal Traditional Leaders and today MEC Manopole handed over 30 Bonsmara cattle to the remaining Principal Traditional Leaders. Each one got six cattle.

 

MEC Manopole emphasized that good working relations between government and traditional leaders will always yield positive results. Meanwhile, Northern Cape House of Traditional Leader Chairperson Kgosi Pelonomi Toto stressed lack of grazing land as a challenge. Kgosi Toto however welcomed the good gesture from government. The handover ceremony was attended by the JTG District Executive, Mayor Queen Mogatle-Thoane accompanied by other delegation.
