Witsand Nature Reserve
The MEC responsible for Tourism in the Northern Cape, Ms Venues Blennies-Magage, officially launched the Tourism Month 2025 at the Witsand Nature Reserve recently.
During the launch event, she highlighted the critical role of tourism in economic development and social transformation, resonating well with the month being celebrated under the global theme: “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation.”
According to the MEC, “this is not just a slogan—it is a rallying cry. A call to rediscover the treasures in our own backyard, to support local tourism businesses, and to create meaningful memories with those we hold dear.”
This month is brimming with leisure and cultural events—from lifestyle festivals to heritage celebrations—all designed to connect locals and visitors in meaningful ways.
MEC Blennies told the Pixley Independent, “Domestic tourism remains the heartbeat of our sector’s recovery. That’s why we proudly champion initiatives like Shot’left Travel Week, offering unbeatable deals to explore the Northern Cape.
“We’ve launched a quadbike adventure at Witsand Nature Reserve, adding to our portfolio of active tourism. Witsand is a gateway to the Kalahari, Namakwa, Karoo, and Diamond Fields—offering family-friendly activities, scenic picnic spots, and diverse accommodations.”
The MEC further called on tourists not to miss Mahala Week from SANParks, granting free day-entry to our iconic Arid Parks: Mokala near Kimberley, Augrabies Falls, Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park and Richtersveld in Namakwa.
The Northern Cape tourism brand pillars include Real Nature, Real Culture, Real Adventure, and these, according to MEC Blennies, are not just words. They are lived experiences.
“The Northern Cape is not just a destination—it’s a feeling. A place where joy is found in the warmth of our people, the majesty of our landscapes, and the unforgettable moments captured by every traveler’s lens. Whether you’re a thrill-seeker, a culture enthusiast, or a nature lover, the Northern Cape offers you a glimpse into something truly extraordinary.”
Kuruman is scheduled to host the Provincial Tourism Day Celebration, a moment to reflect, celebrate, and envision the future of tourism in our province on the 26 September 2025.
