The Minister for Tourism, Ms. Patricia de Lille joined by the Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Blade Ndzimande , Deputy Minister for Tourism, Ms Makhotso Magdeline Sotyu and MEC for Finance, Economic Development, and Tourism, Ms Venus Blennies recently led the World Tourism Day Celebration in Carnarvon.
As part of the celebrations, the country’s Astro-tourism strategy was also launched under the theme; Tourism and Peace – 30 years of connecting people to Places and Cultures. The Astro-tourism strategy promotes scientific advancement and South Africa’s Natural beauty.
The focus for the 2024 Tourism Day is on promoting Astro-Tourism, which in itself will benefit the Northen Cape with its rich potential for Astrophysics and Science.
Minister De Lille in her address emphasised the importance of the Tourism sector to create jobs and job opportunities.
MEC Blennies highlighted the importance of collaboration between government and scientific communities to leverage these opportunities for sustainable development in Carnavon and the surrounding areas.
Tourism Day is celebrated annually as part of Tourism Month.
