This year also marks 70 years of the Women’s Charter. The 1954 Women’s Charter elevated women’s rights to a new level of prominence. It emphasised the crucial need to prioritise women’s liberation alongside the struggle for freedom, ensuring that women would not remain perpetually oppressed even after the achievement of democracy. It called for fundamental rights such as equal pay for equal work, maternity leave, and the right to participate in politics.
