As the nation prepares for the upcoming elections, a recent poll conducted by an independent body has shed light on the political landscape in the Northern Cape province. According to the findings unveiled this morning in Kimberley, the African National Congress (ANC) is poised to maintain its majority in the region following the May 29, 2024 election.

the survey, conducted by Ever-Excellence and generously funded by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, aimed to delve into voter perceptions and the critical issues influencing the political landscape of the ANC, the Northern Cape Province, and South Africa as a whole in anticipation of the 2024 general elections.

The poll results reveal a promising outlook for the ANC, indicating a slight increase in their share of the vote by 4.49% compared to the 2019 election, with a projected 62.69% of the vote. In the previous election, the ANC secured 58.2% of the votes, positioning it as the dominant political force in the Province.

Interestingly, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) emerged as the second most favored party according to the poll, projected to garner 11.07% of the vote, surpassing the Democratic Alliance (DA), which is forecasted to attain 6.44%. This shift potentially sees the EFF claiming the official opposition status in the Northern Cape, should these projections materialize.

Irvin Steenkamp, Manager of Ever-Excellence, highlighted the significance of the survey in comprehensively understanding voter perceptions, demographic characteristics, and political preferences. He emphasized that the insights gleaned from the survey will provide valuable guidance for political analysis and policy-making in the lead-up to the 2024 general elections.

Steenkamp elaborated further: – “The survey seeks to comprehensively understand voter perceptions, demographic characteristics, and political preferences, providing valuable insights for political analysis and policy-making ahead of the 2024 general elections.”

The ANC in the Northern Cape welcomed these findings with optimism, viewing them as an endorsement of its ongoing commitment to serving the interests of the people and fostering development in the province.
