The donation of about 258 valuable game animals to 7 emerging game farmers in the Northern Cape is a long-term investment which will pay off in years to come. Viewed by many as a game changer as far as biodiversity is concerned the donation will surely enable the beneficiaries to participate meaningfully in the economic spinoffs generated by the sector. These animals will surely contribute to sustainable farming practices and economic growth for the new owners.
The program incurred a total cost of R3.6 million, with game worth R2.5 million and capturing expenses amounting to R1.1 million. The donation was made by the Northern Cape MEC for Agriculture, Environmental Affairs, Rural Development and Land Reform, Mme, Mase Manopole along with SAN Parks, during a game donation program held at Rolfontein Nature Reserve in the Pixley KaSeme District Municipality.
MEC Manopole addressed beneficiaries, highlighting the program’s significance in fostering growth, sustainability, and conservation of flora and fauna in the Northern Cape, while also promoting inclusion of historically disadvantaged black game farmers.
Said Manopole,” the program’s success underscores our province’s commitment to modernization, growth, and prosperity.”
The Mayor of the Renosterberg Local Municipality Cllr Andrew Samson attended the event and appreciated the efforts by the department in empowering emerging farmers.
One of the beneficiaries Mr. Franklin Benade from Droehout Boendary in Upington expressed gratitude to the department for their generous donation.
