The Central University of Technology’s (CUT) Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology (FEBIT) recently hosted its Annual Prize Giving & Awards Ceremony, with MEC Dibolelo Mance delivering a resounding keynote address. The event, themed “Building the Future: Infrastructure Development as a Pathway for Youth Employment,” brought together students, parents, and industry stakeholders to recognise outstanding achievements in engineering, built environment, and information technology.
In her address, MEC Mance who was in her usual element shared a personal story of growth and inspiration, reminding students that CUT produces leaders, professionals, and change-makers. “Returning here is deeply personal. Like many of you, I once walked these corridors, sat in lecture rooms filled with ambition, and wondered what the future might hold. Standing here today is a reminder that this institution does not only produce graduates, it produces leaders, professionals and change-makers,” she said.
The event recognised exceptional students, including Thabiso Matsemela, Best Student in Master’s Degree in FEBIT. Matsemela expressed his gratitude, saying, “This award means a lot to me, especially my efforts in dedicating more time to personal development. I’m focusing all my energies towards completing my PhD.”
MEC Mance emphasised the significance of the students’ achievements, stating, “Your achievement goes beyond personal success. It represents capacity. It represents readiness. It represents the future workforce of our province, and that is why this moment matters not only to you and your families, but to the development agenda of the Free State.”
The ceremony was a celebration of hard work and dedication, with parents and peers singing and cheering for the future engineers and IT practitioners. FEBIT Dean, Professor Muthoni Masinde, welcomed MEC Mance, highlighting the faculty’s commitment to nurturing talent.
The event showcased CUT’s dedication to driving change and growth in the Free State province. As MEC Mance noted, “This moment is a testament to the potential of our youth and the power of infrastructure development to shape our future.”
The evening was filled with hope and promise, as students, parents, and industry stakeholders looked forward to a brighter future, driven by the talents and passions of CUT’s graduates.
