Dimbaza – Eastern Cape
On 1 March 2026, Bongani Zweni, founder of Bright Ideas Movement, will begin a symbolic walk from Dimbaza to East London via the R63 and N2 highways to raise awareness about drug abuse and gangsterism affecting youth in Eastern Cape townships.
Since 2019, Bright Ideas Movement has actively worked to remove children from the streets and away from drugs by organising sports events, awareness programs, and community workshops.
The Walk for Change campaign aims to:
– Educate communities about the dangers of drug abuse.
– Promote youth participation in sport and positive activities.
– Encourage community dialogue and prevention strategies.
“The escalating use of illegal drugs is destroying families and increasing crime in our communities. This walk is about hope, prevention, and action,” says Bongani.
The organisation is seeking support in the form of sports equipment and educational materials to sustain youth programs after the walk concludes in East London.
Community members, businesses, and stakeholders are encouraged to support the initiative.
