Communities in and around Renosterberg municipality are set to benefit from a renewable energy project scheduled to be implemented in due course. The project a partnership between the local municipality and Crossroads Green Energy Consortium is viewed by energy pundits as a beacon of hope and will surely go a long way in alleviating current energy challenges.
A recent meeting held between the Consortium and the municipality on the 18 April highlighted recent developments that will make sure that the proposed renewable energy projects will be implemented. In line with relevant legislation public participation meetings were held in July 2023 and subsequently IEA request for approval were submitted to the department of nature conservation for approval.
According to the municipality about 9 of the 23 IEA applications were approved. The project will include amongst others the construction of a Main Transmission Substation (MTS) and the following noticeable progress has been achieved;
– Connection to the grid – An application and a report is submitted for Eskom’s approval and response will be received by end of May
– EIA permits have been approved and received
– Basic EIA for transmission routes has been submitted
– approval has been received for the water use license from the department water and sanitation
– currently undergoing geotechnical studies/investigation
– A socio- developmental study has been undertaken
The Consortium which includes Africoast investment, Golden Sunshine, Aqua Afrique – Frence based and Hive together with the municipality is currently developing and advanced community readiness for the construction phase.
The Mayor Cllr Andrew Samson expressed his gratitude on behalf of the community of Renosterberg Municipality for the commitment of the Consortium in ensuring the implementation of the project.
