Prieska
The Northern Cape Department of Social Development, in partnership with SASSA Northern Cape, recently hosted an Integrated Community Registration Outreach Programme (ICROP) at the Omega Community Hall in Prieska, Siyathemba Local Municipality.
Led by MEC for Social Development Ms. Mase Manopole (Pictured) and SASSA Regional Executive Manager Ms. Karabelo Mojanaga, the programme brought government departments, agencies and stakeholders together under one roof to provide essential services directly to the community.
Also in attendance were Siyathemba Local Municipality Mayor, Cllr. Franklin Louw, and Councillors, who joined provincial leadership, SASSA and other stakeholders in engaging with the community and supporting the integrated service-delivery programme.
A key part of the programme was a community dialogue where young people, persons with disabilities, older persons and those affected by gender-based violence raised issues affecting their lives and communities, with government representatives responding directly to the matters raised.
Residents were also able to access a range of services, including social grant assistance, Home Affairs services, social work support and referrals, GBV and substance abuse support, youth development services, financial guidance, policing services, and food security and agricultural support.
Addressing the community, MEC Manopole emphasised the importance of taking government beyond its offices and ensuring that residents, particularly those in rural and underserved communities, can engage directly with public representatives and officials responsible for service delivery.
The programme also included the handing over of items to community members and a commemoration of SASSA’s 20-year milestone, followed by continued on-site service delivery.
Through initiatives such as ICROP, government continues to strengthen collaboration, improve access to services and bring support closer to the people who need it most.
