Upington – Upington City FC tasted their first defeat of the 2026/27 Motsepe Foundation Championship season after falling 0-1 to Highbury FC at the Mxolisi Dicky Jacobs Stadium on Saturday, 5 September.
The home side went into the match in solid form, having collected four points from their opening two fixtures a 1-1 draw against NWU FC and a 2-1 victory over Real Native. The clash with Highbury marked their third outing of the campaign and their first loss.

Highbury, who arrived in Upington as one of the early pace setters in the league, proved clinical. They managed to break the long deadlock after 89 minutes of the game and held firm to secure all three points against the Northern Cape outfit.
