CUT has been recognised nationally for excellence in renewable energy management, earning first place in Category 2: Renewable Energy at the 2025 Higher Education Facilities Management Association (HEFMA) Awards, held at North-West University (NWU) in Potchefstroom.
The achievement celebrates CUT’s remarkable progress in renewable energy management and sustainability, driven by the university’s Sustainable Campus Plan -an initiative that advances solar power adoption, energy efficiency, and responsible environmental stewardship across both the Bloemfontein and Welkom campuses.
Through these interventions, CUT has achieved a 34.55% renewable energy contribution towards its total electricity consumption as of the third quarter of 2025, against a set target of 35% by the end of the year. The university’s long-term vision is to reach 40% electricity contribution from renewable sources by 2040.
CUT continues to Think Beyond by transforming its campuses into sustainable, energy-efficient environments that empower future generations to innovate responsibly.
