Proud moment for a local resident during a house handover by MEC Vass

MEC Bentley Vass responsible for the Department of COGHSTA, handed over eleven (11) BNG (Breaking New Ground) houses, to some of the beneficiaries at the Calvinia 200 Housing Project, in Calvinia, in the Hantam Local Municipality (Namakwa District Municipality).

 

MEC Vass was joined by the Executive Mayor of the Namakwa District, Councillor Mervin Cloete, the Mayor of the Hantam Local Municipality, Councillor Koos Alexander and other councillors and local leaders.

 

MEC Vass said ‘’We continue to work with speed to address challenges of housing in the Province. Tomorrow, we will be handing over houses in De Aar and Colesberg in the Pixley Ka Seme District, as part of the two days programme across the two Districts to accelerate the delivery of houses”.

 

Vass continued to say ‘’We are enjoined by Section 26 of the Constitution, to ensure that everyone has access to adequate housing, and to restore the dignity of our people, within our available resources’’.

 

The Department of COGHSTA, hand over the houses as soon as they are completed, to avoid vandalism and to ensure that the beneficiaries take ownership of their houses immediately.

 

The Northern Cape Provincial Government is committed to eradicating the housing backlog in the province, through the building and handing over of houses in all the Districts.
