The Republic of China has donated electricity generators to the South African government as part of ongoing collaborative efforts to expand economic opportunities and strengthen service delivery.

In the Free State, the generators were received by the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure under the leadership of MEC Dibolelo Mance. They will be distributed to schools, healthcare facilities, and government buildings, ensuring that essential services continue uninterrupted during power shortages.

“We are very excited and blessed. This is a significant donation to the Free State government and will greatly assist in addressing the challenges we have been facing as a province. Services will be delivered promptly without any interruptions,” said MEC Mance.

With South Africa facing ongoing energy supply challenges and frequent load-shedding, the government has introduced multiple measures to stabilise the power situation. This initiative aligns with those efforts, not only providing immediate relief but also contributing to long-term energy resilience.

Beyond enhancing service delivery, the project will play a key role in skills development and job creation. The department’s team of professional engineers and electricians will oversee the installation process, ensuring that the generators are properly set up, safely maintained, and used efficiently. Additionally, young artisans in the department’s development programme will gain hands-on experience by participating in the installation process.

“This initiative is more than just about power supply; it’s about investing in young people, equipping them with critical technical skills, and building internal capacity within the department,” said MEC Mance.

The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure remains committed to prioritising skills development and job creation, ensuring that such projects not only address immediate challenges but also contribute to long-term economic growth and employment opportunities in the province.
