The Premier of the Free State MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae, accompanied by MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism, Ketso Makume and MEC for Health Monyatso Mahlatsi visited families of the two of the three South African National Defence Force members from Free State province who perished in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo while on a peace keeping mission.
The slain members are Staff Sergeant Molahlehi Ishmael Molahlehi from Selosesha in Thaba-Nchu, Rifleman Tshidiso Andries Mabele from Senekal, and Rifleman Mokete Joseph Mobe from U-Section in Botshabelo.
The Premier and Members of the Executive Council extended their condolences to the bereaved families. The first family to be visited was the family of Rifleman Mobe who leaves behind his wife, daughter, siblings and his mother.
This gallant soldier will be laid to rest on Saturday 22 February 2025 at Botshabelo Arena. The entourage later proceeded to Thaba Nchu to the family of Staff Sergeant Molahlehi. His 22 year old daughter was beside herself with grief and was visibly deeply affected by the death of her father.
Staff Sergeant Molahlehi also leaves behind a two months old baby who he has never laid eyes on. Molahlehi will be buried on Sunday 23 February 2025. The Free State Provincial Government has committed to assist the families to ensure the smooth burial of their loved ones.
The Premier said she will deploy MECs to attend the funeral services of the fallen heroes. The family of Rifleman Mabele will be visited before the end of the week.
