The ANC PEC in the Northern Cape convened its first day of the PEC lekgotla yesterday Sunday, 26 August 2024. The PEC Lekgotla was attended by alliance partners, Leagues, NEC Members, ANC regional leadership, deployees to government and legislature, the Lekgotla will be two-pronged to review the work done on the resolutions taken at the last Lekgotla, as well as the crafting of a programmatic way forward based on the challenges and solutions identified in the various commissions, this will be done in alignment with the tasks outlined in the ANC elections manifesto.
The Provincial Chairperson Comrade Zamani Saul officially opened the PEC Lekgotla on Sunday, 25 August 2024, the Lekgotla is set to outline the programme of action for the 7th administration. The gathering, held three months after the recent elections, marks an important moment of reflection for the organization, providing an opportunity to assess both internal and external challenges.
In his opening remarks the Provincial Chairperson comrade Zamani Saul (pictured), acknowledged the difficult election outcomes and highlighted the importance of introspection within both ANC and government. Cde Zamani Saul reaffirmed the PEC’s commitment to ensuring that the upcoming regional conferences are conducted transparently and in a manner that upholds the will of the membership. He called on all delegates to engage meaningfully in strengthening the organization, aiming to unify the region and restore trust among the people.
In his Political Overview, the provincial chairperson acknowledged the electoral defeat and the resultant new political reality. With the ANC’s support having fallen below 50% in the province, the Lekgotla is tasked with outlining a recovery strategy ahead of the 2026 local government elections. The chairperson stressed the need to rebuild dynamic ANC branches in wards and to prioritize internal unity, avoiding divisive tactics on social media and during upcoming regional conferences.
Messages of support from the Alliance partners emphasized the critical need for solidarity during this period of renewal. The working class has delivered a stark verdict on the ANC’s performance, underscored by issues such as unemployment, corruption, and the ongoing energy crisis. The Alliance also underscored the importance of tackling key challenges, including gender-based violence, poverty, and inequality.
The Provincial Secretary, Cde Deshi Ngxanga, who presented the Lekgotla framework and emphasized the critical role of the Lekgotla in guiding the ANC forward, particularly in light of the electoral outcomes. He expressed the need for greater responsiveness to the community’s needs, stressing the urgency of delivering basic services as a priority. The Lekgotla Framework, presented during the session, calls for the effective implementation of the ANC’s resolutions and election manifesto. It highlighted key
strategic priorities, such as combating corruption, addressing the “sins of incumbency,” and tackling the challenges of unemployment and underdevelopment. The leadership urged delegates to develop action plans to win back lost municipalities and restore the people’s confidence in the movement.
The Lekgotla will continue until Monday, 26 August 2024, with detailed discussions on how to reignite the ANC’s standing as the leader of society and deliver on its commitment to the people of the Northern Cape
