Dr. Zamani Saul, the current Premier of the Northern Cape, has urged voters not to be swayed by political promises that may prove unattainable. He referred to certain politicians as “clowns” who seek votes but fail to deliver meaningful improvements in people’s lives after elections. As the Provincial Chairperson of the African National Congress (ANC), Dr. Saul’s perspective carries weight in the province.
Dr. Saul was addressing multitudes of the party’s supporters who had gathered at Mxolisi Dicky Jacobs Stadium as part of the ANC Provincial Siyanqoba Rally.
Dr. Said Saul, “It’s essential for voters to critically evaluate campaign pledges and consider the track record of candidates before casting their ballots. The ANC is the longest liberation movement in the Africa and always prioritizes people’s development.”
He told supporters to go back to their branches and make sure that the ANC envisaged 70% of the vote in the province is achieved. He further encouraged members to prepare for ANC victory. Said Saul,”the ANC significant popularity and support among most South Africans is due to its accomplishments over the last three decades. We will continue serving the people with dignity. The ANC is confident of good electoral performance in the coming polls.”
Saul also made a clarion call to the veterans of the movement to participate in the programmes of the ANC. According to Saul their wisdom will benefit the organization. According to Saul, the country will never experience load shedding again, “The country is in safe hands because we have a visionary president who rightfully appointed a minister of electricity to look into this issue and is now sorted.”
Saul says that amongst the priorities of the ANC is creating job opportunities with a specific focus on young people with a target of creating more than 2,5 million job opportunities, “it is unacceptable that young people continue to loiter in the streets with nothing to do.”
The event held amidst fanfare saw messages of support from various leagues and the ANC National Executive Committee (NEC) led by Andile Lungisa who delivered a message of support on its behalf. In his message of support Lungisa called upon voters to trust the ANC and vote wisely on the provincial and national government elections scheduled for 29 May 2024. Lungisa said that the National Executive Committee is fully behind President Cyril Ramaphosa and his endeavors to change people’s lives. Lungisa also paid tribute to the late ANC stalward Walter Sisulu an anti-apartheid activist whose birthday is today 18 May.
Tshepo stuurman (25) one of the young people who attended the rally told Pixley Independent of his wish to get a Job and turn around the fortunes of his family. Said Stuurman, “We are here as young people to support the ANC, but our support is not in the form of a blank cheque. We need leadership that will put the empowerment of young people at the centre of government programmes.”
Meanwhile, the ANC national campaign has recently received a major boost when former presidents, Thabo Mbeki and Kgalema Motlanthe added their voices calling on people to vote for the ANC. The ANV President Cyril Ramaphosa has hit out at naysayers who believe that the party will attain less than 50% in the upcoming elections.
Ramaphosa says he is confident that the ANC will get a clear majority in the upcoming national elections. A national Siyanqoba rally is scheduled for 25 May 2024 in Johannesburg,
