The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) and the Provincial Department of Education recently handed over a token of appreciation to Ms. Dikeledi Mokhothu, an educator from Setshabelo Primary School in Welkom. Ms. Mokhothu was recognized for her exceptional mentorship and guidance in the recent Baswa Le Meetse 2025 competition, where her learners achieved outstanding results.
The learners, under Ms. Mokhothu’s guidance, won first position in the Matjhabeng Local Municipality and nationally in the Poster category, earning the school a total of R30,000. In recognition of her hard work and dedication, the Department awarded Ms. Mokhothu a tablet, courtesy of the EW SETA.
Deputy Director of the Water and Sanitation Education Program, Mr. Vukani Mtya, emphasized the importance of educating young minds about water conservation and hygiene. “Through educators, we channel the right information to learners, enabling them to become responsible citizens and pursue careers in the water sector.”
Ms. Mokhothu expressed her gratitude, saying, “The support from the Department of Water and Sanitation really warmed my heart. This token of appreciation serves as an encouragement for me and other educators to go beyond expectations.”
The school’s principal, Mr. Mokoena, congratulated Ms. Mokhothu on her outstanding achievement, praising her for consistently putting the school’s name on the map.
The Department encourages both educators and learners to participate in the Water and Sanitation Education Program, which includes Baswa Le Meetse, Aqua Enduro, and Public Speaking competitions.
