From Galeshewe to Global Glory:

The Northern Cape MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Mr. Mangaliso Matika, extends heartfelt congratulations to 21-year-old Mohau Nkota, a rising football star from Kimberley, on his historic signing with Saudi Arabian club Al Ettifaq.

Nkota’s journey—from the dusty pitches of Galeshewe to signing a three-year contract with one of the Saudi Pro League’s top-flight teams—marks a monumental achievement for the province and the country at large. His rapid rise, which includes a standout debut season with Orlando Pirates and notable performances in the CAF Champions League, has now propelled him to the global stage, where he will share the field with football legends such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema.

“This is a defining moment for the Northern Cape,” said MEC Matika. “Mohau’s story is one of perseverance, talent, and inspiration. He is a beacon of hope for all our young athletes, proving that greatness can emerge from our communities when hard work meets opportunity.”

Nkota becomes one of the first players from the Northern Cape to break into the international elite league directly from South Africa’s DStv Premiership—a feat that reflects not only his individual dedication, but the potential that exists in the province’s sporting grassroots.

“To Mohau, I say: Your journey sends a powerful message to every young person in the Northern Cape—that your dreams are valid, and your background is no barrier to success. Keep chasing, keep believing, and keep inspiring,” added the MEC.

The Northern Cape Department of Sport, Arts and Culture remains committed to developing local talent and supporting athletes on their paths to international success.
