The National Department of Health together with the Northern Cape Provincial Department of Health will on Thursday, (07 November) lead the NCDs & Healthy Lifestyle campaign to up-scale community-based health screening using local resources in Retswelele Location, Frances Baard District Municipality, Northern Cape province.<\/p>\n

Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), many of which are preventable, continue to escalate at an alarming rate with serious impact on the wellbeing and development of our people. As a result, the country is not on track to meet Target 3.4 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Statistics South Africa suggest that NCDs contribute 57.8% of all deaths, of which 60% are premature (under 70 years of age) and that since 2016, deaths due to NCDs have surpassed those resulting from Communicable Diseases.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Government\u2019s response to the prevention and control of NCDs has been guided by various Global (UN and WHO) and National Policy and Strategic directives. Yet the situation remains unchanged and is clearly demonstrated in Covid-19 outcomes where patients with comorbidities, in particular uncontrolled diabetes, and hypertension experience higher risk for serious illness and even death. The recently approved National Strategic Plan for the Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases 2022 \u2013 2027 is viewed as the platform for accelerating Government\u2019s response on NCDs.<\/p>\n

This event will be led the Northern Cape MEC for Health Mr Maruping Lekwene together with the Frances Baard District Municipality local councillors. A variety of health services will be provided onsite.<\/p>\n
