MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism, Hon Venus Blennies welcomes an update on the final submission of the municipal annual financial statements to the office of the Auditor General as provided by municipal finance management act (PFMA) 56\/2003.<\/p>\n
For the 2023\/2024 audit cycle, 27 of 31 municipalities submitted on time, 2 submitted late and 2 did not submit at all. This implies that timely submissions have improved from 25 in 2022\/2023 to 27 in 2023\/2024, and non-submission reduced from 5 to 2 from 2022\/2023 to 2023\/2024 and 4 of the municipalities who submitted late in 2022\/2023 managed to submit on time for 2023\/2024.<\/p>\n
In a statement the department said this is a slight improvement compared to the previous cycle which is an important indicator on matters of municipal compliance or audit process. Said MEC Blennies, \u201cI wish to extend my sincere gratitude to all the municipalities who met the target of submissions of the annual financial statements (AFS\u201d s) and annual performance reports (APR\u201d s) as provided by the regulations that the deadline of submissions is the 31 August 2024.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe hard work does not go unnoticed, and we know the time and effort that has been put on this achievement, although our aim is to reach 100% submission targets. This however calls for more collaboration and proactive approaches.<\/p>\n
\u201cA big thank you to everyone who has worked beyond the call of duty to make this possible as we continue to provide support to those municipalities who did not submit on time, all hands remain on the deck during this process and we are looking forward to improve audit outcomes for this financial year\u201d, said MEC Venus Blennies.<\/p>\n
MEC Venus Blennies committed, through the collaboration effort between the provincial government and municipalities, to work towards addressing the bottlenecks and putting checks and balances in place to ensure that vacancies in critical positions in the municipality are filled, this particularly looking at vacancies for CFO\u201d s, who are there to ensure that monthly procedures are performed and that late appointment of consultants is addressed.<\/p>\n
The Department also aims at fostering collaboration between all parties, including the office of the Auditor General (AG) to address challenges and, also share best practices. As part of the Northern Cape Provincial Treasury continued support to municipalities, the department has also completed the placement of interns who will be assisting during the audit process in areas among others, audit files, preparations, assisting with ensuring that timelines of responding to Auditor General (AG) queries are adhered to at the selected municipalities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
