{"id":531,"date":"2024-07-08T20:05:48","date_gmt":"2024-07-08T18:05:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pixleyindependent.co.za\/?p=531"},"modified":"2024-07-08T20:16:19","modified_gmt":"2024-07-08T18:16:19","slug":"aip-announces-new-leadership-and-membership-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pixleyindependent.co.za\/?p=531","title":{"rendered":"AIP announces new leadership and membership awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Association of Independent Publishers (AIP) is happy to announce that it has elected new leadership.\u00a0 Anetta Mangxaba (pictured) will be taking over as new Chairperson, bringing her wealth of experience and vision to the role. Additionally, Johannes Makgate has been elected as the Deputy Chair. Mangxaba is the publisher of Dizindaba Media, a company that owns a small commercial newspaper, Dizindaba\u00a0 Iphephandaba lesiXhosa, launched in February 2010 to service the under-served isiXhosa community in the Western Cape. Makgate, launched Glimpse Magazine in the NorthWest in 2007 to address issues affecting the Ngaka Modiri Molema community.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>AIP veteran publisher, Mbali Dhlomo stepped down in June after three years at the helm. Dhlomo took on the role of chairperson for a second time in 2021, at the tail end of Covid. Dhlomo states, \u201cThis was a particularly difficult time for AIP and its publishers. AIP\u2019s chairperson, Wandile Fana passed away during this period\u201d. Dhlomo worked tirelessly to rebuild AIP. The Association thus extend its heartfelt gratitude to her for her dedicated service and leadership.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In other important news, a number of AIP members were selected in June to participate in the Amplify South Africa Programme. Amplify was launched by the Media Development Investment\u00a0 Fund (MDIF) to provide mentoring, capacity strengthening and grant funding to help media businesses build their revenues, audiences and innovation.<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations to the following outstanding publishers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Slindile Khanyile, owner of Likhanyile Group<\/li>\n<li>Dunisani Ntsanwisi, owner of Nthavela Newspaper<\/li>\n<li>Moipone Malefane, owner of Vutivi Business News<\/li>\n<li>Shirley Govender, owner of Xenor Projects<\/li>\n<li>Anton van Zyl, owner of Zoutnet CC<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The AIP further announced that three of its publications have been shortlisted for the\u00a0 prestigious Federation of Community Journalists (FCJ) Awards: Limpopo Mirror, Zoutpansberger, and\u00a0 Pondoland Times.\u00a0 Limpopo Mirror has been nominated in the categories of \u201cWriting &#8211; Hard News\u201d, \u201cInvestigative\u00a0 Reporting\u201d, \u201cSport\u201d and \u201cPaid Newspaper of the Year\u201d. The Zoutpansberger has been nominated in\u00a0 the categories of \u201cWriting &#8211; Hard News\u201d, \u201cInvestigative Reporting\u201d, and \u201cSport\u201d.
