The Executive Mayor of the Dawid Kruiper Municipality, Mr David Kazi, has officiated at the sod-turning ceremony for upgrade work at the Kameelmond Wastewater Treatment Plant in Upington.<\/p>\n
“The majority ANC council has completed the necessary application for funding and procurement of the contractor to complete the Upgrade of the Bulk Sewerage Treatment Works,” said Mayor Kazi.<\/p>\n
The appointment has been finalised for R319 million. It is one of the municipality’s largest infrastructure projects, designed to expand the existing plant’s capacity from 16 million litres to 28 million litres per day.The Municipality completed Phase 1 in 2023, which restored the existing 16 Ml\/day plant to full functionality, including refurbishment of electro-mechanical equipment, a staff facility and a motor control centre (MCC).<\/p>\n
“Phase 2 is here!! The Kameelmond Wastewater Treatment Plant – KWWTW – currently serves more than 23 000 households, which is mostly Upington and the surrounding rural settlements,” said the Mayor.The expansion works will include construction of a full 12 Ml\/day activated sludge train and sludge management facility.<\/p>\n
The increased capacity will improve the quality of effluent discharged into the river and provide the needed capacity to serve the growing economy.The municipality has completed approximately 4,500 household connections for water and sanitation services in various areas of Upington, with more connections in progress.<\/p>\n
The project is expected to run for 32 months and create about 50 work opportunities, with spin-offs for local contractor development. The municipality’s LED office will formalise an engagement platform for contractors to reach specific development goals.The consulting firm is Bigen Africa Services, and the contractor is the Civils 2000 and Alveo Consortium.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
