The Premier of the Northern Cape, Dr. Zamani Saul (pictured), joined by the MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Ms. Desery Fienies, will officially open the Aggrey Klaaste Library in Greenpoint on Friday, 12 April 2024.<\/p>\n
The library is named after Dr Aggrey Klaaste who was a towering South African journalist, editor and community builder. He is famous for his nation building philosophy he launched in 1988 when he became editor of Sowetan, then the country\u2019s leading daily newspaper for the black community.<\/p>\n
The Greenpoint Library forms part of Northern Cape Government\u2019s initiative to provide new community library infrastructure for communities. The Library in Greenpoint is aimed at building a reading nation and to provide information service responsive to the needs of the community that respond to a call for the people of South Africa to educate themselves.<\/p>\n
Government is committed to transforming urban and rural community infrastructure facilities and services through the support of the Libraries Conditional Grant. Community libraries are increasingly becoming centres of culture where people connect and share information and access learning platforms.
