Northern Cape MEC for Agriculture, Environmental Affairs, Rural Development, and Land Reform, Ms Mase Manopole has officially opened the province’s free Nature Reserves Week in Doornkloof Nature Reserve outside Colesburg in the Pixley Ka Seme District recently.<\/p>\n
MEC Manopole challenged the community to build a legacy that will benefit future generations through taking care of all reserves. “This is not just the opening of these reserves. All four Nature Reserves of the province, namely Goegap, Oorlogskloof, Rolfontein, and Doornkloof, are all free – It is everyone’s responsibility to preserve the good that nature is providing to us”. Exclaimed MEC Manopole, who was accompanied by Acting Mayor councilor William Harmse and some dignitaries.<\/p>\n
The Graduate Trainee Program, the Horticulture Learnership, and the Open for Business Participants representative, Ms Yolanda Mekile, highlighted that the learnership came in handy for them. “Through the Horticulture learnership, young people are being trained to care for nature in a way that ensures sustainability. This reserve has become more than just a working place for us, where we are growing, finding purpose, passion, and discovering our potential. Outlined elated Ms Mekile.<\/p>\n
The MEC used the platform to pledge about R50 000 to the Umso High School, which rendered melodic lyrics to the enchantment of everyone in attendance. Community organization also benefitted when the MEC donated game carcasses. They were very appreciative of the gesture.<\/p>\n
The opening week by the MEC will run until the 10th of October and forms part of the tourism month that culminates with the school recess, where communities don’t pay anything for day visiting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
