Kimberley<\/p>\n

The Northern Cape Department of Roads and Public Works is urging motorists and visitors to the province to exercise extreme caution, following sustained and heavy rainfall that has impacted several key routes across the Namaqua and Frances Baard Districts.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Gravel roads and various regional routes have become dangerously wet and slippery, increasing the risk of accidents. The Department has commenced the installation of warning signage on hazardous sections to ensure road user safety.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

High-risk routes \u2013 Namaqua District<\/p>\n

Two major roads have been flagged as particularly dangerous and should be approached with utmost caution:<\/p>\n

-Kamieskroon Road (DR2951) \u2013 known locally as the \u201cOp die Berg\u201d Road<\/p>\n

-Khuboes Road (DR3247\/3246)<\/p>\n

Weather forecasts predict that rainfall in this district will subside by 2:00 AM on Thursday, potentially easing current conditions.<\/p>\n

Affected roads \u2013 Frances Baard District<\/p>\n

While the Kimberley, Jan Kempdorp, Delportshoop, and Ritchie areas have not yet experienced major visible damage due to it being the first day of rain, several roads have been reported as affected but remain drivable:<\/p>\n

-MR811: Douglas to Schmidtsdrift<\/p>\n

-DR3355: Olifantshoek to Schmidtsdrift<\/p>\n

-DR3354: Vaalharts<\/p>\n

-MR802: Witpit<\/p>\n

-MR910: Schmidtsdrift to Papkuil<\/p>\n

Griekwastad Area:<\/strong><\/p>\n

-TR69\/2: Griekwastad to Nikershoop<\/p>\n

-DR3041: Griekwastad to Limpit<\/p>\n

-MR809: Griekwastad to Douglas<\/p>\n

-DR3379: Lime Acres to Silverstream<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Road signs are being erected on these routes to alert and guide motorists.<\/p>\n

The Department urges all road users to:<\/p>\n

-Drive with heightened caution<\/p>\n

-Avoid unnecessary travel<\/p>\n

-Plan routes ahead of time<\/p>\n

-Stay informed through official departmental platforms<\/p>\n

The department said it remains committed to public safety and are actively monitoring the situation. Road users are encouraged to remain vigilant and patient as we respond to evolving weather conditions.<\/p>\n
