{"id":1450,"date":"2025-07-27T19:07:55","date_gmt":"2025-07-27T17:07:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pixleyindependent.co.za\/?p=1450"},"modified":"2025-07-27T19:33:02","modified_gmt":"2025-07-27T17:33:02","slug":"northern-cape-a-province-making-strides","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pixleyindependent.co.za\/?p=1450","title":{"rendered":"The Northern Cape &#8211; a province making strides"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Kimberley<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>President Cyril Ramaphosa has declared the Northern Cape a province \u201con the move,\u201d following a Presidential engagement between national and provincial leaders in Kimberley on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The President spoke to the media following the engagement which was held at the province\u2019s Sol Plaatje University.<\/p>\n<p>The President was accompanied by various Ministers, Deputy Ministers and senior government officials.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were very impressed with the presentation that they gave us and the vision that they have for the Northern Cape, [and] various projects, which they are hoping would turn around the economy of the province &#8212; from Boetgooebaai which is the port, water projects, roads and a whole number of projects.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the province that\u2019s on the move. And\u2026 as you know, when it comes to renewable energy, it is the one province that has attracted more investment,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>President Ramaphosa said the province is seen as a future leader of industrialisation and manufacturing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re looking at setting up an SEZ and making sure that manufacturing does come here which will be underpinned by the natural resources that the province has.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe [irradiation] in this province are second to none in the world and that is why we\u2019ve been able to attract so many investments to come to this province,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, the Presidency explained the key issues discussed at the engagement with the Northern Cape\u2019s executive.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe meeting discussed the ongoing roll out of catalytic economic development projects that require the deepening of cooperation between the national and provincial governments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese include the Boegoebaai Harbor and SEZ development, revitalisation and expansion of Vaalharts, Namakwa SEZ and the development of the infrastructure masterplan.
