The Public Works Department had its first awareness and information session with the political principals of the Local Municipalities in the Xhariep District municipality on 24 June 2025. The session, held in Trompsburg comes in the wake of an assessment made by the Office of MEC Dibolelo Mance that, a need to talk frankly and openly towards assisting each other to realize the objectives of the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) is essential.<\/p>\n
\u201cA more open and inclusive way of working needs to be championed by us because it is for us as this collective. We are here especially with our Part One of our Program to share the performance of the District on EPWP with the Executive Mayors, Municipal Managers and Officials especially EPWP Coordinators,\u201d said MEC Mance.<\/p>\n

Part of the presentation shared by officials of the Department with the Executive Mayors and the MEC was towards strengthening the reporting lines of all work opportunities created in the local projects, adhere to the EPWP business plans in line with the protocol agreements signed by the political principals, ensure that information and data recorded on the projects is authentic, truthful and addresses the key aspects of job creation, alleviate poverty and bridging the gap towards a more equal transition.<\/p>\n

The Xhariep District EPWP Information Session was concluded with a cleaning campaign where cleaning of open spaces at the Albert Nzula District Hospital took place until later in the day. Also, the session saw about 57 EPWP Participants meeting with MEC Mance with others signing their twelve-month contracts.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe always embrace the efforts brought forth by the EPWP especially in our areas here in the Xhariep District as we are more of a rural District by make and design. To us every job opportunity counts and matters especially for our people,\u201d said Mayor Cllr. Tseletsele.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are pleased and excited to be part of the EPWP in our local area as we gain valuable skills and we are able to put food on the table at the end of the day,\u201d said Mr. Sidwel one of the participants from Xhariep District.<\/p>\n

The session ended well and is set to roll-out to other Districts like Thabo Mofutsanyana, Fezile Dabi, Mangaung and Lejweleputswa to intensify and solidify the relations amongst the Local Municipalities, the Provincial Department of Public Works and the National Public Works & Infrastructure Department.<\/p>\n
