In a quest to promote international exchanges and cooperation between Fujian Province and South Africa in the field of health and promote the “going out” of traditional Chinese medicine in Fujian Province, a delegation of 5 people led by Lin Xian, member of the party group and deputy director of the Fujian Provincial Health Commission, recently visited the Confucius Institute at Durban University of Technology to discuss the promotion of traditional Chinese medicine culture in South Africa and the prospect of cooperation in localized development.<\/p>\n
The delegation first introduced the development of medical and health care in Fujian Province and shared the experience of the development of traditional Chinese medicine and the construction of public health system in Fujian Province.<\/p>\n
Wu Lin, the Chinese director of the Confucius Institute, gave a detailed introduction to the Durban University of Technology and its Confucius Institute. Subsequently, Gugu Mchunu, Dean of the School of Health Sciences of Durban University of Technology, said that the current demand for rehabilitation medical services and education in South Africa is increasing, and she hopes to enrich the teaching content and strengthen the cultivation of international talents by introducing traditional Chinese medicine culture and advanced rehabilitation concepts and technologies.<\/p>\n

Director Lin Xian highly praised the achievements of the Confucius Institute in promoting people-to-people exchanges between China and South Africa,and encouraged more South African young people and scholars to come to Fujian for study and exchange.<\/p>\n
He pointed out that under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative and BRICS cooperation, exchanges between China and South Africa have become closer and more frequent, and he believes that with the assistance of the Confucius Institute, bilateral exchanges and cooperation in the field of traditional Chinese medicine and rehabilitation medicine can be promoted.<\/p>\n
In order to better promote the culture of TCM and deepen the understanding of TCM, two medical experts in the delegation also brought two wonderful TCM lectures to the teachers and students of Durban University of Technology, demonstrating the innovative application of rehabilitation medicine in practice, which was warmly welcomed by the teachers and students.<\/p>\n
Zeng Weiquan, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Rehabilitation Hospital Affiliated to Fujian University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, gave a detailed introduction to the practical application of acupuncture therapy in the field of rehabilitation with the theme of “A Model of Integration of Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine – Minimally Invasive Acupuncture Therapy in China”. Combining theory and clinical cases, he explained to the teachers and students how this therapy can effectively treat musculoskeletal diseases and achieve rapid recovery through unique technical advantages.<\/p>\n

Zhou Yangjie, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Second People’s Hospital Affiliated to Fujian University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, brought a special lecture on “Scientific Neck Care and Cognition First” – How to Use Traditional Chinese Medicine to Rescue the Low-headed Family. Starting from the health problems of the cervical spine in daily life, he taught the students practical methods to prevent cervical spondylosis through illustrated explanations and vivid case studies, and emphasized the importance of early intervention and health management. The in-depth and concise introductions of the two experts, as well as on-site interactions, massage techniques and other traditional Chinese medicine cultural experience activities, stimulated the strong interest of teachers and students in traditional Chinese medicine culture.<\/p>\n
Subsequently, Gugu Mchunu and Zeng Weiquan signed a letter of intent on behalf of Durban University of Technology and the Rehabilitation Hospital Affiliated to Fujian University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, respectively, and the two sides will carry out extensive cooperation in educational resource sharing, teaching and research cooperation, talent training and technical support.<\/p>\n
