{"id":1184,"date":"2025-02-18T17:32:35","date_gmt":"2025-02-18T15:32:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pixleyindependent.co.za\/?p=1184"},"modified":"2025-02-18T17:33:32","modified_gmt":"2025-02-18T15:33:32","slug":"mec-vass-to-host-special-munimec-meeting-to-discuss-local-critical-issues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pixleyindependent.co.za\/?p=1184","title":{"rendered":"MEC Vass to host special MUNIMEC meeting to discuss critical issues"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Kimberley<\/p>\n<p>The MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (COGHSTA), in the Northern Cape, Mr Bentley Vass, will host a special MUNIMEC (Municipalities and MEC) meeting on Wednesday, 19 February 2025, in Springbok (Namakwa District) to discuss critical issues affecting local government.<\/p>\n<p>The MUNIMEC is a strategic meeting of the MEC with Executive Mayors\/Mayors and Municipal Managers, of all the thirty-one (31) municipalities of the Northern Cape.<\/p>\n<p>The special MUNIMEC will receive and discuss presentations on the ward configuration processes in preparation for the 2026 Local Government Elections; the progress made by municipalities to adopt the standard draft by-laws for the registration of businesses; and the security clearance (vetting) of Municipal Managers and directors reporting directly to the Municipal Managers, amongst critical items on the agenda of the special meeting.<\/p>\n<p>MEC Vass said \u2018\u2019We are looking forward to this special MUNIMEC, as we have identified a few matters that must be dealt with on an urgent basis to ensure that municipalities are aware of a few changes to the legislation or regulations, and with the upcoming local government elections, for municipalities to work closely with the Municipal Demarcation Board (MDB) in the unfolding process of the ward configuration\u2019\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>All the thirty-one (31) municipalities in the Northern Cape are expected to take part in the MUNIMEC.
