Ms Kitty Mthabela, a lecturer in the Department of Applied Management Sciences and a PhD candidate at the Durban University of Technology (DUT), recently earned the prestigious \u201cWinning Paper\u201d title at the BRICS Research Institute Capacity Development Research Workshop held at Jilin University\u2019s School of International Public Affairs in Changchun, China.<\/p>\n

Reflecting on her experience, Mthabela shared that she was part of a dedicated group of DUT students who travelled to China for this exceptional opportunity. She noted that the workshop offered a unique platform for both students and academics to enhance their research skills, exchange innovative ideas and build valuable international collaborations.<\/p>\n

She was honoured to be recognised as a standout participant in her session, obtaining the \u201cWinning Paper\u201d award. Mthabela shared that the recognition came after she made waves with her exceptional paper presentation. Her research, titled \u201cFactors Determining University-Industry Partnerships in South Africa,\u201d co-authored with esteemed DUT academics, Dr Luther-King Junior Zogli and Dr Ndivhuho Tshikovhi, left the guests impressed with her work and the impactful research conducted at DUT.<\/p>\n

Giving insight on her research, Mthabela said it explores the critical elements that influence partnerships between universities and industries, a topic of significant relevance in today\u2019s rapidly evolving educational landscape. Her insights contribute to academic discourse and hold practical implications for enhancing collaboration between educational institutions and the business sector in South Africa.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe workshop at Jilin University attracted postgraduate students from DUT and Jilin universities, providing a fertile ground for knowledge exchange and networking. DUT students engaged with international peers and experts, gaining valuable insights that will undoubtedly enrich their academic pursuits,\u201d shares Mthabela.<\/p>\n

She referred to the experience as being incredibly informative and rewarding. \u201cNot only did I have the opportunity to present my research on a global stage, but I also learned from the diverse perspectives of my fellow researchers and experts in my field. Winning this award was an honour, and I hope it will inspire sustainable and mutually beneficial collaborations between universities and industry partners,\u201d remarked Mthabela.<\/p>\n
